Speaking at a ceremony held to inaugurate a Quran school in the capital Algiers, Youcef Belmehdi hailed the booming of Quran schools and Quranic centers in the country, the Algeria Information Center reported.
He said more than 1.2 million Algerians are taking Quranic courses in the Quran schools and centers.
They are learning Quran memorization, recitation and Tafseer (interpretation), he noted.
The Awqaf minister appreciated the efforts of those in charge of running summer Quran schools and said while some 500,000 students had enrolled to learn the Quran at these schools last year, there are more students signing up for the Quranic courses this summer.
Belmehdi said that the ministry has also organized other Quranic activities this summer, including summer Quranic camps.

He added that the ultimate goal of such activities is raising a generation on the basis of the teachings of the Holy Book.
